The problem with anything outside the social norm is fear, an irrational fear of the unknown. You are different to me, so I am wary of you. It's why people are racist. Your skin is a different colour to me, why should I trust you?

Whilst people appear to celebrate individuality, it has to agree with their definition. Become too individual and they fear you because you fall outside their tramlines.

As a trans you will eventually get accepted, but sadly you have to keep fighting. Gays are more accepted now than they were several years ago. Men in the UK are unafraid to walk out in the open holding hands together.

Transgender is now a protected characteristic in the UK's Sex Discrimination Act. I also wrote an article on Medium on a transgender issue, focusing on a personal experience, which you may find interesting
